Doesn't it sound wonderful? You could be swaying gently in a soft supportive hammock, feeling that ever so slight breeze and letting all your troubles melt to the ground beneath you. Ahhh. Breathe in, breathe out. That's all you have to do. Great thought, it's it? Maybe it's time you got a hammock!
Camping is a popular time when people set up hammocks. Many people think they're easier to setup and more comfortable than air mattresses and sleeping bags. However, not all hammocks are suitable for camping. Tourist or yard hammocks made from uncomfortable, rough-woven fibers, thin nylon strings or thick-corded rope with wooden spreader bars are intended only for a short nap in the shade. You need to consider what the goal of the hammock is and make your decision based on desired use, comfort level, and price.
Comfort is important. Cotton rope is cooler and softer during those summer months but the synthetic rope hammocks are better at resisting rot and other damage coming from being exposed to the elements. Hammocks made from fabric don't leave rope indentations on the skin, however, and tend to be more comfortable.
Three-point hammocks are an option to consider. They are made with a no-tilt design to deliver a mild sway resting retreat. It has two points of attachment on one end and one point of attachment on the other to limit swinging movement.
How about hanging it? The fantasy version has you hanging it between two perfectly spaced coconut trees. But most of don't have coconut trees in our yards and they certainly aren't the perfect size and distance from each other. That's why most people end up getting a hammock stand. It is another expense as part of this fantastic relaxation scenario, but they are important. They come in a variety of styles and sizes and are made from materials such as wood, aluminum and plastic. It all depends on what you want and how much you want to spend.
